Held may 24-26 in St. Petersburg International economic forum the Governor of Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko reported that he had met with Russian investors and discussed with them the possibility of creating a platform for mining at the old site of the Leningrad nuclear power plant (LAES) in Sosnovy Bor.
«During the forum we met with a group of Russian investors, who propose to create a platform for mining cryptocurrency. Until the negotiations, I will not name the final beneficiaries,» said Drozdenko.
Last year, the Governor said that in the pines completed construction of LNPP-2. In this regard, the old first power units of the Leningrad nuclear power plant will be decommissioned. In their place Drozdenko proposed to create a cryptocurrency mining farm. The first reaction to this initiative was very low-key, but now «caught the idea» and implement it.
«We understand that the creation of such a project will take time. <…> We are currently working on the decommissioning of the first nuclear reactor, this is the dismantling, recycling and then vacated the shop will be open for commercial use to create a technology Park and a mining farm,» said Drozdenko.
The construction of new power units of Leningrad NPP will allow to release the site, which will be available to new residents in 2018. More than 10 thousand sq. m. will be placed IT clusters, high-tech production in the field of nuclear medicine and pharmacology.
Leningrad nuclear power plant belongs to concern «Rosenergoatom» and located in the town of Sosnovy Bor, 80 km West of St. Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. The construction of new blocks of Leningrad nuclear power plant began in the summer of 2007.
