The amount of theft from Bank cards of Russians decreased by 10% in 2017 (to 961 million rubles), because attackers switched to cryptocurrency. The Bank of Russia said in the «review of the unauthorized transfers of funds», prepared by the Center for monitoring and responding to computer attacks in the financial sphere (Fincert Bank of Russia).
«Downward trends in the number and amount of unauthorized transactions showed a slight decrease in the activity of the intruders, explaining what may be the active development of cryptocurrency and the switch of interest to them,» – the document says.
The Central Bank stresses that the legislative regulation of the cryptocurrency market may reduce its attractiveness to attackers.
«This may result in the increase of their activity in the field of remote payment services and, consequently, increasing the number and scope of unauthorized operations», – informs the regulator.
Thanks to the «antifraud» verification of performing high-quality translation of the face reduces the activity of intruders. So the average amount one unauthorized operations in 2017 decreased by 17% and amounted to 3000 rubles, noted in the review.
In 2017 the volume of theft of payment cards amounted to 961.3 million rubles, which is 10% less than 2016 – 1.08 billion.
