François de Villeroy Halo (Francois Villeroy de Galhau), President of the Bank of France, involved in the formation of policies of the European Central Bank (ECB), said that the laws necessary for regulation of cryptocurrency exchanges.
Speaking at a banking conference City Week in London on 24 April, de Halo, which already earlier made some interesting statements regarding cryptocurrency, has repeatedly mentioned them in his speech.
«In particular, we at the ECB need to work on regulation of exchanges and platforms that provide services on the border between scriptactive and the real economy» — quote
it to the media.
Last year de Galo spoken about bitcoin in a slightly different way – when the price of the cryptocurrency was closer to $ 20,000, the President of the Bank of France stated that «bitcoin does not cryptocurrency»:
«I would like to clarify that bitcoin is no currency, or even bitcoin. It is a speculative asset. Its value and extreme volatility have no economic basis and are not included neither in whose area of responsibility».
ECB representatives also repeatedly expressed their opinion about the cryptocurrency. In February, ECB President Mario Draghi noted that EU banks show «moderate interest» in cryptocurrencies, while in the autumn of last year he stated that bitcoin is «underdeveloped» for regulation. In addition, in December last year, a member of the Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) Yves Mersch (Yves Mersch) said that to counter the rising popularity of crypto-currencies commercial banks need to develop a faster payment system.
